ASKC is a fantastic place! My kids have been going here for almost 15 years. The instructors meet the children where they are developmentally and don't have a one-size-fits-all program like some belt-mills do. My youngest has practically grown up at this dojo, starting when she was almost three. She's utilized the Afterschool program and the Summer program. There is always an emphasis on self-defense and fitness. Sparring, Weapons, and Grappling are all available as well as regular classes focusing on a cross-section of karate skills. If you or your children are looking for solid karate and life skills, this is the place.
When we started at ASKC my son was scared. We had tried another karate school where he was thrown into a class with older kids and minimal instruction. He was embarrassed that he didn’t know the moves. ASKC is different. First of all, they started with a get to know you session where they taught him some basic moves and let him know what to expect in class (he’s a kid that needs lots of information). After talking with him, they decided to let him go to classes with younger kids to build his confidence. When he was ready, they moved him to the youth class. Every student at ASKC is treated as an individual and they are experts at teaching and motivating. There is more to learn than karate. My son has learned that you must make mistakes to learn. Perseverance is one of the key concepts they teach. The staff is excellent at developing leadership skills in students. The older students take interest in the younger students and mentor them. Every teen student you see there is respectful, and you will see them encouraging the younger students. The karate instruction is excellent (you can easily find info on their impressive credentials) and a great option for a kid that doesn’t want to play team sports. The staff is dedicated and caring. The instructor to student ratio in class is exceptional- kids get more instruction in class when they need it. Cost is reasonable. We drive 25 minutes to get there. We could go closer to home, but ASKC is worth it!
My daughter has been going to ASKC for over 6 years. I really didn't think that karate was going to be her "thing" when she first began, but she loves it and has grown in so many ways thanks to Mr. Clifton, Miss Kim, and all the instructors and students. She earned her 1st degree black belt last fall and we really feel that ASKC is part of our family.
We have been going to American Sport Karate Center for over 4 years and would recommend it to anyone. They are so patient with the kids and teach great skills like stranger danger, self defense and best of all discipline. Definitely recommend!!

Yes, with one exception. Virtual classes don’t have the same social atmosphere as in-person classes, but they provide the same physical and mental benefits as our regular martial arts classes.
All you need is loose, breathable workout clothes. You may want a mat as well, but it’s not a requirement. If you already have a uniform from a regular martial arts class, you can wear it.
Our instructors will provide the same detailed instructions and demonstrations they would in a live class. You’ll be able to follow their instructions to ensure you are mastering each skill you learn.
The classes are available live and for most students, this option offers the ideal experience. However, we recognize that not everybody’s schedule is the same. If you can’t attend the class when it’s happening, we make recordings available, so you can work out on your own schedule.
